Kara Vogelson, District 4 Representative
For over a decade, Kara Vogelson has been working in public health. She currently is the Organizational Development and Research Manager at the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health in Mason City, Iowa. Ms. Vogelson has a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in Health Care Administration. During her public health career, she has held several positions of advancing responsibility including Environmental Health Specialist, Healthy Homes Coordinator and Assistant Health Planner. Besides her current role as the Organizational Development and Research Manager, she is the secondary Public Information Officer communicating with the media and public in the primary Officer's absence and serves as the Assistant Deputy Director of Administrative Operations.
Ms. Vogelson has worked in delivery of many public health programs and services, created new programs, written local ordinance and advised on public health policy. Her current responsibilities demand team-oriented leadership. These include identifying and securing funding opportunities through anticipated and innovative partnerships, managing departmental planning documents (e.g. the strategic plan and the community health assessment - health improvement plan) and coordinating quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, she developed, implemented and oversees a continuous grant performance evaluation program and sits on the Steering Team of the area community care coordination project.
