Since December of 2011, Deborah Thompson has had the pleasure of promoting and improving the health of Iowans as the Iowa Department of Public Health’s Policy Advisor and Legislative Liaison.
Before joining IDPH she spent four years at the nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency as a legislative analyst. There she assisted legislators in crafting annual appropriations budgets for departments like IDPH and the Department of Human Services. She has also worn other hats about the Statehouse such as Senate intern, House clerk, and intern/lobbyist for Eide & Heisinger Government Relations Firm. She also enjoyed a year interning for the United Way of Central Iowa as they launched their public policy division and version 2.0 of the United Ways of Iowa.
Deborah moved to Des Moines from Dallas, Texas in 2000 to attend Drake University as an undergraduate where she also achieved her master’s degree in public administration in 2007.
